Leonilda M. Diekemper, age 87, of Carlyle, passed away Monday, February 16 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial for 87 year old Leonilda M. Diekemper will be Saturday, February 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, February 20 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Church, Visiting Nurses, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Leonilda was born on February 16, 1928, in rural Carlyle, a daughter of Gerhard and Josephine (Rakers) Kampwerth. She married Raymond Diekemper on April 21, 1948, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle, and he survives in Carlyle.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Diekemper is also survived by her children – Maurice Diekemper and wife Donna of Trenton, Raymond Diekemper and wife Marilyn of Carlyle, Leon Diekemper and wife Kim of Shattuc, Philip Diekemper and wife Kelly of Carlyle, Gerhard Diekemper and wife Janice of Carlyle, Vera Golder and husband Jim of Keyesport and Debbie Johnson and husband Brad of Beckemeyer; 17 grandchildren – Jim Golder and wife Christy, Stacy Mickelson and husband Wade, Craig Diekemper and wife Michele, Ryan Diekemper and wife Treva, Michael Diekemper and wife Megan, Jeffrey Diekemper and wife Julia, Kent Diekemper and wife Holly, Valerie Koch and husband Justin, Brandon Diekemper and fiancé Melissa, Alissa Schomaker and husband Ross, Ashley Voss and husband Jason, Brian Diekemper and wife Amy, Jessica Diekemper and friend Mickey, Philip Diekemper and friend Sarah, Miranda Diekemper and friend Matt, Jason Johnson and Tyler Diekemper; 18 great grandchildren – Miley and Macey Golder, Hailey Mickelson, Madyson, McKenzie and Maggie Diekemper, Colton and Reagen Diekemper, Case Diekemper, Olivia Diekemper, Emma, Adilyn and Kinsley Diekemper, Kody and Klay Koch, Corbin Schomaker, and Jayden and Lucas Voss. She is also survived by a sister – Jo Agnes Beckemeyer of Carlyle; her brothers – Cornelius “Bud” Kampwerth and wife Sally, Frank Kampwerth and wife Lucille, Roland Kampwerth and wife Rosemary, and Gerald Kampwerth and friend Vi, all of Carlyle; and her sisters-in-law – Alberta Kampwerth of Highland, and Johanna Diekemper and Agnes Diekemper, both of Carlyle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law – Mathias and Rosa Diekemper; sisters – Sister Veronica Kampwerth, SSND, and Regina Seiffert and husband Louis; her brothers – Herman Kampwerth, Urban Kampwerth and wife Dottie, Norbert Kampwerth and wife Alice, and Joseph Kampwerth; sisters-in-law – Linda Kampwerth, Julia Diekemper, Eleanor Diekemper, Florence Kluemke and husband George, and Anna Voss and husband Edward; and her brothers-in-law – Mathias Diekemper, Joe Diekemper and his wives Lily and Mary, Bernard Diekemper, Henry Diekemper and wife Bernetta, and Wayne Beckemeyer.
Leonilda was employed at Carlyle Shoe Factory, and after she married she worked on the family farm. She enjoyed quilting, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Diekemper was a member of St. Mary’s Church and St. Ann Altar Sodality.
