Lester R. Harnetiaux, age 57, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, February 18 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. Funeral services for 57 year old Lester R. Harnetiaux will be Wednesday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenville First Christian Church. Burial will be in Campground Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Grenville. Memorials are suggested to the Bond County Historical Society, Greenville College, or the Comets Sports Boosters.
Lester Raymond Harnetiaux, the son of Ermal B. Harnetiaux and Leola Maude Ulmet Harnetiaux, was born on October 2, 1957 in Breese. He grew up as a child on the Harnetiaux farm, moving to Greenville at the age of two. Lester attended the Greenville Schools and graduated from Greenville High School in 1975. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Greenville College in 1979 and went into realty in his senior year. Lester has owned and operated the Tri County Appraisal since 2000 and Bond County Realtors since 2004.
Lester is survived by his brother Melvin (Deb) Harnetiaux of Keyesport, niece Sherry (Anthony) Varner of Keyesport, nephews: Chris (Noel) Harnetiaux of Greenville, David Harnetiaux of Keyesport, great nieces and nephews: Peyton Varner, Aiden Varner, Jolie Harnetiaux, and Kaya Harnetiaux.
Lester was active in organizations including the Alumni Board at Greenville College, Greenville Lions Club, Bond County Historical Society, Bond County Genealogy Society, Bond County Historical Society, Greenville Bicentennial Committee, Bond County Soil and Water District Board, Heartland Conservancy Board, Board of Directors-BCCU # 2 Academic Foundation, Township Assessor for Mills, Tamalco, and Mulberry Grove-Bond County, Prairie Investment Club, Board of Directors-Greenville Investment Company, Board of Directors-Elm Street Land Development, Board of Directors-Bond County Investors LLC, Past Board Member-Bond County Housing Authority, Past Board Member-Greater Gateway Association of Realtors, Member-ICAP (Illinois Coalition Appraisal Professionals), Member-Greenville Lions Club, Member-Greenville Chamber of Commerce, Member-Greenville Business and Professional Society, Member-Nature Conservancy, Member-National Audubon Society, Member-Ducks Unlimited, Member-Illinois Assessor’s Association, Greenville First Christian Church children’s ministry volunteer.
Assorted other information: A life-long resident of Bond County and graduate of both Greenville High School and Greenville College (B.S. in Business Administration with emphasis on accounting), Lester was invested in all aspects of our community. He was a passionate supporter of local businesses. He invested in local artists and collected as much of their work as he could. He also collected a great deal of Greenville and local memorabilia. He supported local athletic teams, both as a coach in years past (summer women’s softball) and as a regular attendee of Comets baseball, basketball, and football games. He also supported the Kingsbury Park District with Sports.
He was a lifetime member of the Wisetown Baptist Church and attended the Greenville First Christian Church.
