Andrew J. “Andy” Anderson, age 76, of Highland, passed away Tuesday, May 10 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. A Mass of Christian Burial for 76 year old Andrew J. “Andy” Anderson will be Saturday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic church in Highland. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Meridith Funeral Home in Highland. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Education Foundation, Lewis & Clark Boy Scouts of America, or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Andy was born April 8, 1938, to Arthur and Felisa (nee Perez) Anderson, in Agana, Guam. On October 3, 1959, he married Roberta “Bobbie” Stimson at Scott Air Force Base, IL.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, attended Cursillo, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1580, 4th Degree Assembly, Knight Time Singers, Mid West Coin Shooters and Historical Club for Metal detecting (which he loved), Scout Master for Troop 63, Committeeman for Troop 1040, Member of the order of the Arrow, Awarded Silver Beaver Award, involved for more than 40 years in Boy Scouts of America.
He loved playing the ukulele and collecting them. He loved to grow hot peppers. He really enjoyed teaching Tai Chi Chih with his wife and has done so for the past 15 years. He loved being a grandpa. He loved to tease. He always had a big smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Anderson, Highland, IL; 2 sons, Andrew “Drew” Anderson, Godfrey, IL, and Alan (Karen) Anderson, Edwardsville, IL; 2 grandchildren, Ethan and Owen Anderson; 1 sister, Julia Medina Anderson, Long Beach, CA; 4 sisters-in-law, Patricia (Delbert) Henderson, Troy, IL, Rose Manibusan Anderson, Maria Salas Anderson, and Elizabeth Blas Alderson; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Felisa Anderson; 3 brothers, Arthur Gifford Anderson, Anthony Lucian Anderson, Franklin George Anderson; 2 sisters, Evangeline Anderson and Rosa Perez Anderson.
