John Lawrence Wempe, 51, of Pocahontas died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Monday at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 10 AM at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with Rev. George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Born May 23, 1963 in Breese, IL, he was a son of Mr. Bernard Wempe and the late Mrs. Joanna Wempe. Previously he worked for First Student Bus Lines as a Bus Driver in Edwardsville, IL. He was a former member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese, IL. John was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He enjoyed WWE wrestling, working on jigsaw puzzles, cooking, bon fires, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his Fiancé, Nena Harper of Pocahontas, IL; his Father, Bernard Wempe of Breese, IL; a daughter, Katie (husband Levi) Nowell of Litchfield, IL; a son, Christopher Wempe of Pocahontas, IL; 4 grandchildren, Levi Jr., Abigail, Ryan, Kelsey; 6 siblings, Bernadette ( husband Christopher) Bean of Collinsville, IL; Kathy Wempe of Breese, IL; Duane (wife Theresa) Wempe of Breese, IL; Brian Wempe of Salem, IL; Deb (husband Scott) Athmer of Albers, IL; and Holly (husband Damon) Arter of Aviston, IL. Numerous nieces and nephews, and 1 great nephew also survive. Besides his mother (Joanna Wempe) he was preceded in death by a son, Allen Wempe.
