Joseph L. Theising, age 88 of Bartelso, passed away Sunday, March 15 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. There will be no services for 88 year old Joseph L. Theising. Burial will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery in Bartelso. Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Theising was born on May 1, 1926, in Bartelso, a son of Frank and Rosa (Bergmann) Theising. He was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso and had worked as a tool and die maker for American Can Company for 32 years. Joseph was a veteran of the United States Army and had served in the 45th Infantry Division in the Korean War from 1951-1952. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star for his service. Mr. Theising was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Marion Post – Bartelso; Hacker-Gebke American Legion Post – Bartelso; Goldsmith-Terry V.F.W. Post 3523 – Carlyle; and the 45th Infantry Division Association and the 700 Ordinance Company. He was also a member of the N.R.A. and the International Association of the Machinist and Aerospace Workers. Joe held a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying airplanes as well as radio controlled airplanes.
Mr. Theising is survived by 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters – Josephine Simpson, Marie Theising, Rose Bishoff, Frances Boehle, and Elizabeth Kohrmann; and 2 brothers – Raymond and Frank Theising.
