Leona B. Bango, age 91 of Beckemeyer, passed away on Tuesday, March 17 at Carlyle Healthcare Center. A Mass of Christian Burial for 91 year old Leona B. Bango will be Saturday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in Beckemeyer. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or the Epilepsy Foundation. The Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle is in charge of arrangements.
Leona was born on August 7, 1923, in Beckemeyer, a daughter of Bernard and Wilhelmina (Steinmann) Korte. She married Abelino A. Bango on February 24, 1949, in Beckemeyer, and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1994.
Mrs. Bango is survived by a daughter – Joyce Bacone and husband John of Indianapolis; 2 sons – Joe Bango and wife Jane and Mike Bango and wife Phyllis, all of Carlyle; and 4 grandchildren – John and Katie Bacone, and Tyler and Abby Bango.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; 2 children in infancy – Jean Marie and Nancy Lee Bango; a grandson – Jacob Bango; a brother – Francis Korte and wife Edna; 3 sisters – Regina Korte, Veronica Menkhaus and husband Tony, and Rose Boeckmann and husband Charles; and her in-laws – Olga Gross, Joe Bango, and Mary Willman.
Leona was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and St. Ann Altar Sodality. She was a home maker and had worked at Brinkmann’s Market in Beckemeyer and Moran Shoe Company in Carlyle. Leona enjoyed quilting, bowling, and playing cards and Bunko.
