Luella A. Spencer, age 88, of Carlyle, passed away Thursday, March 19 at Carlyle Healthcare Center. Funeral services for 88 year old Luella A. Spencer will be Sunday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle. Burial will be in Carlyle Township Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle and Sunday from noon to service time at the church.
Mrs. Spencer was born April 14, 1926, in Pierce, Nebraska, a daughter of Albert A. and Amalia (Borger) Setzkorn. She married Richard B. Spencer on June 8, 1947, in Lincoln, Nebraska and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1995.
Mrs. Spencer is survived by a daughter – Clarissa Spencer of Salem, Illinois; a son – Gary Spencer of Decherd, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren – Roger, Michael and wife Terry, Brian, Kelly and fiancé Andrew, Kyle, and Cory; a sister – Irene Polyock of Houston, Texas; and 8 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a daughter – Iva Jones; and a sister – Norma Henry.
Mrs. Spencer was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the LWML. Lu was an elementary school teacher at Carlyle District #1 and Trinity Lutheran School in Hoffman. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Magazine Club.
