Richard H. Grueter, age 73, of Carlyle, passed away Saturday, March 7 in Ft. Meyers, Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial for 73 year old Richard H. Grueter will be Saturday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle.
Mr. Grueter was born on October 27, 1941, in Carrollton, Illinois, a son of Herman Anthony and Marie Josephine (Braun) Grueter. He married Joyce Hitzemann in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on June 19, 1961, and she passed away on January 29, 2014.
Richard is survived by 2 children – Jody Lynn Grueter of Carlyle and Michael Dean Grueter and wife Laura of St. Charles, Missouri; 3 grandchildren – Ashley Marie Smith and husband Don, Mary Grace Grueter and fiancé Brandon Schultz, and Emily Grueter; a great grandson – Landon Michael Smith; a sister – Sr. Margaret Grueter; a brother – Raymond Grueter; his step-father – George Lehr; and 2 step-brothers – Bill and Frank Lehr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, and his siblings – Evelyn Pitman and husband Eldon, Edward Grueter, Agnes Kuhline, Rosie Balke and husband Berdette, Pauline Hardwick and husband Bob, Betty Thaler and husband Otto, and an infant sister, Virginia Lou.
Mr. Grueter served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957-1961. He worked as a forman at the Fenton Chrysler Factory until his retirement in 2000. Richard was a member and Past Commander of the Keyesport American Legion and a member of St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle. He was an avid Rams football fan and had coached the Little Knights football team in Belleville for many years.
