John F. Gray

John F. Gray, age 79, of Beaver Creek, passed away Saturday, April 25, in Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral services for 79 year-old John F. Gray will be Wednesday, April 29, at 11:00 a.m., in the First Christian Church in Greenville. Burial will be in McKendree Chapel Cemetery west of Keyesport. Friends may call Tuesday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Bond County Senior Center or First Christian Church.

John Franklin Gray, the son of Charles Raymond Gray and Mabel (Harris) Gray, was born January 11, 1936 in Keyesport, Illinois. He was raised in Keyesport, attended the Keyesport schools and graduated from Carlyle High School with the class of 1954. John served our country in the United States Army from 1958 until he was honorably discharged in 1963.

John and Jeannette Kay Mueller were united in marriage on December 27, 1958 in Washington Park, Illinois. They have enjoyed 56 years together. They are the parents of John M. Gray and wife Jackie of Cuba, MO. and Jeffrey T. Gray and wife Cindy of Greenville.

Early in life John helped farmers in Bond County, he then worked the oil fields in Colorado. John returned to Keyesport where he worked at the steel mill. In 1960 John joined IBEW 309 of Collinsville and for 55 years was an electrician. He last worked for SIU Edwardsville. Mr. Gray raised Appaloosa horses since 1968 at 4J Acres. He was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club, IBEW # 309 Of Collinsville for over 55 years, and the First Christian Church in Greenville.

John is the grandfather of 6; Matthew Gray, Amanda Gray, Melissa (Nick) Scego, Kayla Gray, Whitney Gray and Hunter Gray. He was the great-grandfather of Skyler Gray and Clayton Scego. He is also survived by his sisters; Octa Gray Haas of Grand Junction, CO, Mary Gray (LeeRoy) Barth of Keyesport and Sue Gray Hammond of Altamont, IL and sister-in-laws; JoAnn Gray of Carlyle and Vickie Gray of Keyesport.

He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers; Richard Gray and Raymond Gray.
