Norma A. Erlinger, age 92, of Carlyle, passed away Wednesday, April 29 at Carlyle Healthcare Center. Funeral services for 92 year old Norma A. Erlinger will be Friday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Carlyle. Burial will be in Carlyle Township Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church, Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School, or to Carlyle Healthcare Center. The Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Erlinger was born on August 26, 1922, in Centralia, Illinois, a daughter of Henry and Clara (Harting) Knipping. She married Leroy J. “Bud” Erlinger at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle on July 25, 1945, and he preceded her in death on December 14, 2002.
Mrs. Erlinger is survived by a son – David Erlinger and wife Charlene of Nashville; 2 grandchildren – Jennifer Schuette and husband Kent and Jill Stein and husband Jeremy, all of Nashville; her great grandchildren – Madison and Jordan Schuette, and Brady, Gracie, and Karlie Stein; a brother-in-law – Orville Rueter and wife Bernice of Carlyle; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; her father- and mother-in-law – John and Helen Erlinger; a brother – Lee Knipping and wife Gertrude; 2 sisters – Pauline Eikhoff and husband Fred, and Elvira Butler and husband Wayne; and her sisters-in-law – Johanna Rueter, Ruth Becker, Cleo Frerker, and Betty Lou Erlinger.
Mrs. Erlinger was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and had worked at Schroeder’s Department Store. She loved watching Cardinals baseball, playing bingo and golf, and bowling.
