Vaughn L. Neathery, age 99 of Sorento, passed away 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 in Hillsboro, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the Sorento Baptist Church in Sorento, Illinois with Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time Friday. Memorials may be made to the Sorento Baptist Church.
Vaughn Leona Neathery, the daughter of James Arthur Himes and Mary Belle (Ray) Himes, was born July 30, 1915 in Walshville Township. She grew up in Sorento, Illinois where she attended Carrington School and Sorento School. Vaughn was a telephone operator in Sorento and a seamstress.
Vaughn and Laurel Earnest Neathery were united in marriage in March of 1939 in Hillsboro, Illinois. He passed away December 9, 1975. They were harvestors and worked out west Texas to Canada following the harvest. Mrs. Neathery then worked for over 30 years for the Department of Revenue retiring from there at the age of 85.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Cleda, Mrs. George Chestunut of Hillsboro, IL, Jessie, Mrs. Thomas Miller of Leesburg, Florida and Gail, Mrs. William Cruthis of Raymondville, Texas. Also surviving is a sister Freda Virginia, Mrs. Leo Cahoon of Highland, 11 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Laurel, sister Eva Hawkins and 2 great-great grandchildren.
