William John “Johnny” Sparrow, age 41, of Greenville, passed away Monday, June 15. A celebration of life for 41 year-old William John “Johnny” Sparrow will be held Friday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. at LifeLine Fellowship in Sorento. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post #1180 of Mulberry Grove. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to the LifeLine Fellowship. The Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
William John “Johnny” Sparrow Jr., the son of William John Sparrow Sr. and Brenda Key Johnson Sparrow, was born June 18, 1973 in Belleville. Johnny was raised in Collinsville and attended the public schools there and graduated from Collinsville High School with the class of 1991. He later graduated Phi Betta Kappa from Belleville Area College with degrees in industrial welding and industrial engineering. Johnny answered his county’s call by joining the United States Army on October 16, 1991 in St. Louis serving until he was honorably discharged on September 25, 1992 at Fort Bliss, Texas. Johnny worked for Spectrolight then owned and operated The Trading Post at three different locations here in Greenville until forced to retire due to his diabetes. He was an avid gun collector and dealer and raised and trained horses.
Johnny is survived by his father and step-mother William John Sparrow Sr. and Tracy Sparrow of rural Sorento, 2 step-brothers Benjamin Bandy and Matthew Bandy both of Greenville.
Johnny was a member of the American Legion Post 1180 Mulberry Grove, Shoal Creek ABATE Motorcycle Club and the Greenville Free Methodist Church.
