Bernice I. Gum, age 75, of Edwardsville, passed away Friday, July 17 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis. Funeral services for 75 year old Bernice I. Gum will be Tuesday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle. Burial will be in McKendree Chapel Cemetery near Keyesport. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Christian Northeast Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Gum was born on December 24, 1939, in Manila, Arkansas, a daughter of Velo and Lorean (Driskill) Clenney. She married Bill Gum on September 7, 1957, in Troy and he survives.
Bernice is also survived by her daughters – Mika Cherry and husband Robert of Troy, Julie Jett and husband Richard of Alhambra, Leigh Ann Kircher and husband Gary of Millersburg, and Kim Lingo and husband Ernie of Edwardsville; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; a sister – Marsha Semanisin and husband Bob of Troy; and a brother – Troy Clenney and wife Peggy of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a grandson – William Luther Townzen.
Mrs. Gum was a homemaker. She loved to learn and enjoyed reading and working cryptograms. She had many talents, including photography and crafts. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
