Byron E. Sherfy, age 72, of Bethalto, passed away Sunday, July 12 at his residence. Graveside funeral services for 72 year old Byron E. Sherfy will be Thursday, July 16 at 3:00 p.m. in Harris Cemetery in Alhambra. The Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on February 09, 1943, in East Saint Louis, IL, the son of Milton E and Zephrie Fern (nee Jones) Sherfy.
He was a member of Leclaire Christian Church. He was also a member of VFW Post 1308, Alton, IL, and former member of Harris Cemetery Board.
He was born at East St. Louis, IL., and grew up in Edwardsville and Alton, IL. He attended high school at Edwardsville and Alton, IL. He was a former resident of Cottage Hills, IL. He served with the US Army, from July 26, 1962 to March 10, 1967, honorably discharged as Specialist 4th Class. He worked at the Amoco Refinery, Wood River, IL in the following departments: Chief Operator, Metals Mechanic and Sr. Lab Tech; he retired April 1, 1993 after 25 years.
