George O. “Sonny” Beck, age 92, of Highland, passed away Thursday, July 16 at Faith Countryside Homes/Faith Care Center in Highland. Funeral services for 92 year old George O. “Sonny” Beck will be Monday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Burial will be in the Grantfork United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Worden Christian Church, the Grantfork United Church of Christ, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born on Tuesday, June 12, 1923, in Grantfork, IL, the son of George and Selma (nee Augustin) Beck.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1221, Swansea, IL; Grantfork United Church of Christ, Grantfork, IL; Worden Christian Church, Worden, IL.
Born five miles east of Grantfork, IL on Niggli Road; grew up on the family farm. He attended Ruedy County School and graduated from Highland High School in 1941. He worked for Clem Petry’s Garage, Grantfork; then farmed doing dairy, grain and livestock. After marriage he and his wife moved to a home on Fairview Road; his sons still operate the farm. (They are the 5th generation). He retired in the early 1980’s. He enjoyed hunting and dancing. He lived on Doll’s Orchard Rd, Pocahontas, IL, for 20 years before going into Faith Countryside Homes five years ago.
