Joe M. Shepherd, Jr.


Joe M. Shepherd, Jr., age 73, of Alhambra, passed away Thursday, June 4 in New Mexico. A Memorial Funeral Mass for 73 year old Joe M. Shepherd, Jr., will be Friday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland. Friends may call Friday, July 17 from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Parkinson’s Disease Research.

He was born on Friday, September 05, 1941, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Joseph M. and Phena M. (nee Cribbs) Shepherd, Sr.

On Saturday, May 05, 1962, he married Carol “Jane” Shepherd (nee Wilkinson) who passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013.

He was a member of Soaring Society of America (SSA); Silvercreek Glider Club (President), New Douglas, IL

Joe was born and grew up in St. Louis. He was a graduate of Central High School. He earned a degree from Parks College in Aeronautical Engineering. He worked several years at McDonnel Douglas; then Storz Surgical Instruments, which became Bausch & Lomb as Manager of Manufacturing. He retired in early 2000. He lived in Oakville, MO until 2002 and moved to Alhambra, IL. He rebuilt cars, Mustangs, 57 Chevy, and built gliders (sailplanes). He loved his grandchildren. He won many Glider Competitions over the years. Soaring was his passion and he died while soaring in his plane in New Mexico.
