Floyd C. Langel, age 89, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, August 27 at Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral services for 89 year old Floyd C. Langel will be Monday, August 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Bond Christian Service Camp or Brown Cemetery.
Floyd, the son of Ernest Charles and Eliza Lucille (Brown) Langel, was born August 11, 1926 in Old Ripley. He grew up in Old Ripley on the Langel Farm and attended the Mt. Vernon School. Floyd farmed his entire life and also sold cows. He later in life worked for Basler Electric in Highland, Illinois.
Floyd and Betty Jane Dove were united in marriage on July 30, 1949. They have enjoyed 66 years together. She survives as do their children: Samuel L. Langel of Old Ripley, IL, Thomas L. Langel and his wife Cookie of Greenville and Susan Smith and husband Roger of Greenville. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren: Rachel Lewis and husband Mark, Holly Smith and Nic Smith and wife Bree. 6 great-grandchildren: Trista, Tyson, Eliza, Alyvia, Haydn and Shelby and a sister Shirley Hermsmeyer and husband Wilbert of Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Langel was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Vernell Langel, Doris Langel, Delmar and Eldon and a great-grandson Mathew Davis at birth.
