Marjorie M. Clements, age 78, of Highland, passed away Monday, August 10 at her home. Private graveside services for 78 year old Marjorie M. Clements were held Wednesday, August 12 at Highland City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Highland Area Christian Service Ministry Food Pantry or the Louis Latzer memorial Library. The Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Thursday, June 03, 1937, in Pocahontas, IL, the daughter of Earl and Marie (nee Stueber) Shaw.
She married James F. “Max” Clements who survives.
She was a member of First Congregational Church, Highland, IL; Order of the Eastern Star – Pocahontas, IL; Carlyle Historical Society.
Marjorie was born at Pocahontas and grew up on the family farm. She raised her five children and helped with the work on the farm. She worked at Marine Garment Factory in Highland for over 30 years as a seamstress. She also did her own seamstress work by sewing prom dresses, cheerleading uniforms and wedding dresses. She and her husband operated Patrick’s Restaurant in Carlyle, IL and Breitie’s Again in Greenville, IL. She made crafts, sold them at craft fairs and at Diamond Mineral Springs Restaurant, which was owned by her daughter and son-in-law. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and visiting their grandchildren. She enjoyed monthly luncheon with Garment Factory ladies and Kaeser Drug store ladies. For many years Mrs. Clements was very active with the Special Olympics program in Clinton County. She also volunteered for the Clinton County Rehabilitation Center (“Community Link”) at Breese, IL. Mr. & Mrs. Clements sponsored foreign exchange students for many years – the Gutierrez and Martinez families were extra special to her.
