Tom Haar


Tom Haar, age 53 of Carlyle, died Monday, September 21, 2015 at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born March 16, 1962 in Breese, Illinois, a son of Ted and Mary (Fields) Haar. He married Kellie Dorries on December 16, 1989 at St. Teresa’s Church in Marydale, and she survives.

Also surviving is a son, Conner Haar and special friend Allison Lewis; parents, Ted and Mary Haar of Breese; a sister, Becky Hitpas and husband Mark of Breese; mother and father in law, Clyde and Jan Dorries of Carlyle; sister-in-law, Molly Dorries of Trenton; nieces and nephews – Karaleigh Dorries, Marc Gonzalez, Logan Dorries and wife Hannah, Madison Dorries, Mackenzie Dorries, Kayla Hitpas, Zachary Hitpas, Sydney Hitpas; and a great niece, Amelia Dorries. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gary Dorries.

Tom graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1980 and SIU-Carbondale in 1984. He had worked for the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton County Probation Department, and currently was with Illinois Departent of Children and Family Services. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle and Knights of Columbus Council 2869 in Breese.

Tom loved spending time with his family, and his dog, Jake. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, wood working, and was a general handy man. He was also an avid St. Louis Blues fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Wednesday, September 23, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M., and on Thursday morning from 8:00 – 9:30 A.M. Memorial donations are suggested to Celtic Hospice or the donor’s favorite charity and will be accepted at Zieren Funeral Home.
