Anton J. “Tony” Lengermann

Anton J. “Tony” Lengermann, age 93 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Deceased’s Residence in Highland, IL.

He was born on Friday, October 06, 1922, in Merino, CO, the son of Julius and Mary (nee Brueggemann) Lengermann.

On Tuesday, October 05, 1948, he married Eleanor C. Lengermann nee Beckmann who passed away on Thursday, August 08, 2013.

He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL; Life Member VFW Post 5694-Highland, IL; Helvetia Sharpshooters Society-Highland, IL; former member of the Holy Name Society; former member of the Highland Sportsman Club..

Born at Merino, CO; moved to Bartelso, IL in 1929. He attended St. Cecelia’s Catholic School, Bartelso, IL. He enlisted into the US Army, active duty from Sept. 4, 1945 to Feb 8, 1947; attained the rank of Sgt with duty in Germany during World War II. He moved to Highland in 1947. He worked for Highland Supply from July 1948 to Spring of 1991 and then part time and offically retired with 61 years of employment. He enjoyed woodworking (making furniture and shelves) and planting a big garden. He farmed part-time, raising chickens, cattle, hogs and growing grains while working at Highland Supply. He was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan; this past Father’s Day he enjoyed going to Busch Stadium and visiting with his old teammate Red Schoendienst.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 16, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL., with Rev. Father David L. Peters, Retired Pastor, St. Paul Catholic Church, officiating.

Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul School Education Foundation or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
