Herbert H. Schmidt

Herbert H. Schmidt, age 97 of Alhambra, IL, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, IL.

He was born on Saturday, November 24, 1917, in W. Alton, MO, the son of George and Mary (nee Stormer) Schmidt.

On Sunday, March 3, 1946, he married Elda L. Braundmeier, who passed away on June 29, 2014.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Salem UCC Men’s Fellowship, Leef Senior Citizens, and was a Past Leef Township Trustee.

Mr. Schmidt lived in West Alton, MO and then moved to Alhambra, IL in 1944. He farmed until 1971 and then worked at Hitz Memorial Home as a maintenance man until 1973. In 1987, he retired as a custodian for the New Douglas Community School. He was also a maintenance man for Salem Cemetery. He enjoyed reading, yard work, and tending to his garden.

Arrangements are being handled by Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, IL.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, November 2, 2015, at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, IL.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 2, 2015, at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, IL., with Rev. Jerry Amiri, Pastor and Pastor John Mindtrup, Assistant Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at Salem Cemetery in Alhambra, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem UCC Endowment Fund or to Salem Cemetery.
