Betty L. Altom, age 85, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, November 3 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. Funeral services for 85 year old Betty L. Altom will be Saturday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Hospital, Greenville Masonic Lodge 245 AF & AM, or the Greenville First Christian Church.
Betty was born May 25, 1930 in Zanesville, OH to Louis and Mary (Bone) Price. She married Edward “Red” Altom on February 12, 1949 in Greenville. He died March 21, 1994.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Carr and her husband Steve of Springfield, IL, David Altom and his wife Linda of Greenville, Susan Scott and her husband Merle of Greenville, and Melissa Jane Cornelius and her husband Rick of Mulberry Grove, IL along with eight grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Jim Price and his wife Rae of Maryville, IL, Bob Price of Collinsville, IL, and Tom Price and his wife Jean of Edwardsville, IL and two sisters, Delores “Dodey” Horstmann of St. Louis, MO and Sharon Deatherage and her husband David of Memphis, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a granddaughter Samantha Cornelius.
She was a graduate of Greenville High School. She worked as a waitress for many years, working at The Wishing Well in Smithboro and retired from 2 Acres Restaurant in Greenville. She was member of The Greenville First Christian Church.
