Mary L. Davis, age 94 of Carlyle, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle, Illinois.
Mrs. Davis was born on April 10, 1921, in Huey, Illinois, a daughter of Aloysius and Emma (Nettles) Nothaus. She married J. Leo Davis on November 22, 1947, in New Baden, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on April 16, 1999.
Mary is survived by her children – Phyllis Barnard and husband Tom of Springfield, Illinois, Debbie Navidi and husband Navid of Gunnison, Colorado, Ken Davis and wife Cindy of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Dean Davis and wife Pam of Chicago, Illinois; her grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister – Verena Nothaus of Carlyle; and a sister-in-law – June Nothaus of Carlyle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother – Herbert Nothaus, and 2 sisters – Isabel Brinkman and Gertrude Dalhaus.
In her earlier years, Mrs. Davis worked at Wee Walker Shoe Factory and was also a beautician. She later volunteered at Carlyle Healthcare Center. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Church, and enjoyed gardening, quilting, embroidering, and playing bingo. She participated in many activities along with her husband while he served as mayor of Carlyle.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 16, 2015, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Sunday, November 15, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. and on Monday from 8:00 – 9:30 A.M.
