Sylvester F. “Syl” Warnecke

Sylvester F. “Syl” Warnecke, age 87 of New Douglas, IL, died Wednesday, November 04, 2015, at New Douglas, IL.

He was born on Sunday, August 05, 1928, in Aviston, IL, the son of George and Agnes (nee Henken) Warnecke.

On Saturday, May 05, 1951, he married Irene D. Warnecke nee Merscher who passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2003.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Pierron, IL; Knights of Columbus Council #1580 (life member) -Highland, IL; American Legion Post #1239 (Life Member) – Aviston, IL; former member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he belonged to the Ushers Club and Holy Name Society.

Sylvester was born and reared on a farm south of Aviston, IL. He attended St. Francis of Assisi Grade School. He worked as a farm hand and joined the U.S. Army on March 13, 1951. He was discharged as a Corporal with service during the Korean War on March 12, 1953, from the 504th Anti Air Craft Arms Division. After his discharge he worked at Doll’s Orchard, Pocahontas, IL; then Cerro Copper in Sauget, IL; then worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for over 22 years as a car inspector. After he retired he worked out of the Labor’s Local, St. Jacob, IL; at Bergman-Taylor Seed at St. Jacob; Madison Service Co. (FS) at Marine and was a “Nurse Truck Driver”. He loved gardening.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, November 06, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM on Saturday, November 07, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 07, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston, IL.

Interment will be at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery in Aviston, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Masses or Shriners Hospital for Children.
