Anna Hicks, age 62, of Greenville, formerly of Naples, Italy, passed away 6:05 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at Greenville Regional Hospital where she had been a patient for 13 days.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with John Heston officiating. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. For those who desire, memorials may be made to Bond County Hospice.
Anna Celentano, the daughter of Salvatore Celentano and Marie Ranieri Celentano, was born on May 5, 1953 in Naples, Italy. Anna attended the public schools there and early in life worked in a Grocery store and for a Glass Factory. Anna met James Michael Hicks while he was in the service and they were married a year later on September 20, 1973 in Naples, Italy. They are the parents of four children who survive: Stephainie J. Hicks Ephron, William E. Hicks, Antonio “Tony” Hicks, Robert J. Hicks all of Greenville, and three grandchildren: Ty Ephron, Dakota Hicks and Adrianna Ephron. Anna was one of nine siblings being survived by: Rosa Calate, Nunzia (Emanuel) Aurioso, Gennaro (Teresa) Celentano, all of Naples, Carmela LeClerk of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Adriano (Rita) Celentano, Antonellla (Salvatore) Muto and Lina Cafasso all of Naples Italy, and 25 nieces and nephews.
Anna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and one brother, Ciro, at age 14 months.
Anna came to Greenville in July of 1974 and worked cleaning homes, caring for the elderly with “Doors” for several years, for Carlisle Syntec, for Bond County Housing, and has been Supervisor of Houskeeping for Mariner’s Villiage in Carlyle for many years and although she found she had cancer in March of 2015 she worked regularly until December 15, 2015 the day before she went into the hospital.
