Clarence “Buck” Hodapp, age 88 of Carlyle, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese on Saturday, December 26, 2015.
Mr. Hodapp was born on May 21, 1927, in Carlyle, a son of Walter and Elizabeth (Kohlbrecher) Hodapp. He married Melba M. Hediger on April 19, 1950, in Carlyle and she preceded him in death on September 20, 2010.
Mr. Hodapp is survived by 4 daughters – Theresa Hammel of Carlyle, Jean Langenhorst and husband Robert of Bartelso, Denise Thornton of New Berlin, Illinois, and Betty Orr and husband Scott of Highland, Illinois; a son – Bernard Hodapp and wife Geralyn of Carlyle; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters – Helen Hollenkamp and Marilyn Miller and husband Ed, all of Carlyle; and 2 sisters-in-law – Mary Hediger of Carlyle and Judy Hodapp of Bethalto, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; a son – Harry W. Hodapp; and 3 brothers – Walter, Donald, and Robert Hodapp.
Clarence was a veteran of the United States Army during World War 2, and later worked at Scott Air Force Base as a warehouse foreman. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council 1382 in Carlyle. Buck enjoyed repairing small engines, hunting, and fishing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Wednesday, December 30, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday morning from 8:00 – 9:30 A.M. The Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at Zieren Funeral Home at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Hodapp are suggested to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association, and will be received at Zieren Funeral Home.
