Alvin L. Willeford, age 89 of Greenville, passed away Saturday morning, February 27, 2015 at home surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of life service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
Alvin Lemuel, the son of John Thomas “J.T.” and Mable Hunter Willeford was born May 4, 1926 on the family farm on Terrapin Ridge. He attended the local schools and Greenville Highschool. Alvin was a member of 4-H in his youth and later became a 4-H leader. He was in charge of the Terrapin Ridge 4-H Club for 15 years.
Alvin and Norma Jean Elam were united in marriage on June 6, 1948 at the bride’s home. They have enjoyed 67 years together. Surviving are their 2 sons: Victor Lemuel Willeford of Greenville and Michael William Willeford of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Todd Willeford and wife Andrea of Greenville, Daisy Zykan and husband Greg of Greenville, Kristal Warzenski and husband Jade of Connecticut and Kyle Willeford and wife Rachel of Connecticut, Great-grandchildren: Hayden, Landon, Gage, Luke and Alyse.
Mr. Willeford was preceded in death by his parents, sister Learh Hiller, sister Imogene Hillard and granddaughter Jennifer Willeford.
Alvin farmed his entire life and was a hog producer. He was a long time member of the Bond County Farm Bureau and a board member of Bond County Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He and Norma attended the Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church. Alvin also enjoyed being a member of Crazy Couples and Bond County Rural Youth. Alvin’s greatest loves were his wife and family, raising hogs and hunting for mushrooms.
