Bettie Elaine Gaffner, age 82 of Greenville, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mulberry Grove First Baptist Church with Rev. Benjie Potter officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. For those who desire, memorials may be made to the Children’s Ministry at the First Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove.
Bettie Elaine, the daughter of Roy and Velma Taylor Fox, was born June 3, 1933 in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. She grew up south of Mulberry, attended 1st-8th grade in a one-room school house and graduated from Mulberry Grove Highschool. Bettie continued in her education and attended a secretarial college in St. Louis, Missouri. She worked for Glen Wilson’s law practice as a secretary. Bettie later worked for Attorney John Kelsey.
Bettie and Donald Gaffner were united in marriage on December 2, 1951. He has preceded her in death. They had 4 children: Kevin Gaffner of Smithboro, IL, Kimberley Jenne and husband Jeffrey of Wordon, IL and Karen Kay Willmann and husband Max of Greenville. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Gaffner in 1993. Also surviving is a sister Mary Lafata and husband Sam of St. Peters, MO, 6 grandchildren : Kathryn Mosley, Nikki Gaffner, Nathan Gaffner, Byron Jenne and wife Jennifer, Jennifer Goestenkors and husband Johnny and Angela Willmann. Bettie loved spending time with her grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Bettie was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove.
