Richard L. Rasler, age 87 of Greenville, passed away 10:15 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at his home in Greenville.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 in Montrose Cemetery with Darryl Bolen officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.
Richard Lawrence, the son of Ralph and Vera Allen Rasler, was born February 24, 1928 in Pana, Illinois. He grew up in Pana and moved with his family to Bond County when he was young. Richard attended the local schools in Bond County and graduated from Greenville High School.
Richard and Virginia Jean Wilson were united in marriage on November 25, 1949. They enjoyed 65 years together before her passing on October 14, 2015. Richard and Virginia lived in Mulberry Grove and owned and operated Rasler Hardware and Gas from 1949-1976. He then worked for his brother, John, at Rasler Plumbing in Greenville.
Surviving are 2 sons: Richard Keith Rasler of Greenville and Kevin Kent Rasler of Greenville, 2 grandchildren: Richard Lee Rasler and Shelly Sue Sasse and husband John, 3 great-grandchildren: Richard Jacob Rasler, Tyler Sasse and Tristan Sasse, 2 sisters-in-law: Lucille Rasler and Shirley Rasler Lynch.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, parents and siblings: Raymond, Everett “Shorty”, John and Norma Kious.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Greenville.
