Sharon Gustafson, age 79 of Carlyle, passed away at her home on Monday, February 8, 2016.
Mrs. Gustafson was born on July 8, 1937, in Peoria, a daughter of Ralph and Katherine (O’Hara) Jones. She married Gerald Gustafson in Tiskilwa, Illinois on September 7, 1954, and he survives in Carlyle.
Also surviving are her 3 sons – Gary Gustafson and wife Phyllis of Troy, Illinois, Bob Gustafson and wife Mindy of Carlyle, and Tracy Gustafson and wife Lisa of Nashville, Illinois; her grandchildren – Kari Bauer and husband Steve, Chad Gustafson, Jeff Gustafson and wife Katrina, Jamie Hoffmann and husband Tim, Chris Gustafson and wife Jaclyn, Jody Gustafson, Kaylee Simonton and husband Cody, and Kenny Gustafson; 13 great grandchildren and was eagerly expecting the arrival of another great grandchild. She is also survived by 2 sisters – Paula Stolfo of Florida and Nancy Martin and husband Donald Gene of Bradford, Illinois; her in-laws – Robert Gustafson and wife Barbara, Gene Gustafson and wife Betty, Doris Giltner and husband Wilbur, and Joann Gustafson, all of Tiskilwa; and her beloved dog, Sadie Sue.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws – Darlene Hopkins and Russell Gustafson.
Sharon was a member of St. Mary’s Church and had worked for many years at Ed Frank Jewelry in Carlyle. She and her husband were co-managers of the Carlyle Knights of Columbus Hall. Sharon loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always looked forward to family holidays and decorating her home for the holidays. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing and crafts, collecting dolls, and riding motor scooters with her husband. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 12, 2016, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Gustafson are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at Zieren Funeral Home.
