Valeria “Val” J. Moss, 89, of Metamora, passed away at 7:05pm Saturday, February 20, 2016 at UnityPoint Methodist in Peoria.
Val was born October 20, 1926 in Greenville, IL to the late Ernest and Freda Childerson Smith. She married Everett Moss on September 6, 1944 in Greenville; he preceded her in death February 23, 2012.
Surviving are three children, Robert (Alice) Moss of East Peoria, Larry (Lou) Moss of Milton, FL, and Lynette (Tim) Mannos of Washington; grandchildren, Angie, Katie, Eric, Robyn, Jennifer, Conrad, Brandon, Linsey, and Aaron; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dale (Ann) Smith of Greenville.
She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Eldon and Gary Smith; and 2 grandsons, Matt and Martin.
Val attended Greenville High School and graduated from East Peoria High School after her family relocated during World War II. She worked in the accounting departments at ABC Washer Co., Carlton Russell Tire Co., and Caterpillar Tractor Co., later retiring from Cat. Val enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband, as well as quilting, and was a devoted and fanatical St. Louis Cardinals fan. She was an excellent mother to her children, and was a wonderful cook with many specialties, especially her pies.
Val’s family would like to thank the staff at Snyder Village in Metamora for the excellent care they provided over the years. Because of their care, she was able to stay in her apartment, which she was very proud of.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Greenville. Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville in charge of local arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Matthew Mannos Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o Heartland Bank in Washington.
