Vernon W. Miener, age 86 of Grantfork, IL, died Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL.
He was born on June 18, 1929, in St. Louis, MO, the son of William and Alice (nee Duft) Miener.
On June 16, 1951, he married Lucille M. Miener, nee Rinderer, who passed away on March 24, 2009.
He was a member of Grantfork United Church of Christ, Grantfork, IL, Masonic Lodge #583, A.F. & A.M. (Masons)-Highland, IL, and a former member of Laborers Local 397-Granite City.
Mr. Miener was born in St. Louis, MO, and grew up in St. Jacob, IL. He moved to Grantfork where he was a livestock, dairy, and grain farmer. He was also a laborer and a member of the Laborers Local #680 of Highland (presently Laborers Local #397-Granite City), where he served as business manager for many years. He and his son, Larry, started Miener Nursery, where they raised and planted large trees. He enjoyed his life working, farming, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 5, 2016, and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL., with Pastor Charles West, Retired Pastor, Alton, IL, officiating.
Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
