Joyce E. Dierkes

Joyce E. Dierkes, age 81 of Greenville, passed away Wednesday evening, March 9, 2016 in Helia Healthcare, Greenville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will follow in Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bond County Shriner’s or the Bond County Hospice.

Joyce Elaine, the daughter of Edward Charles “E.C.” and Nellie May Goodson Schaufelberger, was born October 27, 1934. She grew up on the family farm and attended the local schools. Joyce graduated from Greenville Highschool with the class of 1952. Joyce was the first Bond County Fair Queen in 1951.

Joyce and John D. Dierkes were united in marriage on July 24, 1953 in Greenville at the First Presbyterian Church. They had enjoyed 45 years together before his passing on October 24, 1998. Joyce and John owned and operated the Dierkes Zephyr Gas Station on Harris Avenue from 1965 until a month after John’s death in 1998. Joyce loved spending time with her children and grand and great-grandchildren. She volunteered at the Greenville Elementary School Library for a few years in her retirement.

Surviving are her children: Karla K. Dierkes of Greenville, Kristy Mahoney and husband John of Florida, John K. Dierkes and wife Joyce of Pinkneyville, IL, Jeffrey A. Dierkes and wife Angel of Mulberry Grove, IL and James T. Dierkes and wife Dee of Greenville. She was preceded in death by a daughter Kathy E. Dierkes in January of 2000.

Also surviving are her 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Katie Wiegand and husband Chance, John Dierkes, James “Jimmie” Dierkes and wife Jessie, Joe Dierkes, Jason Dierkes and husband Angie, Jennifer Alstat and husband Ryan, Julie Smith, Kelly Weary and husband Curtis, Kristen Roethemeir and husband Tim, JonnieLyn Kapp and husband Kyle, Tom Goodson and wife Kate, Matthew Goodson and wife Ashley, Jake Goodson and wife Lisa, step-grandchildren: Heather Ostrom and husband Brenden, Brian Hagen and Kellie McDonald. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren and 2 sisters: Cleta Harwood of Irving, IL and Ruthie Barnett and husband Donald of Reno, Illinois, sister-in-laws: Oleta Schaufelberger of Greenville and Iris Schaufelberger of Arizona.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, husband John, daughter Kathy E. and brothers Dale Schaufelberger, Howard Schaufelberger and Warren Schaufelberger.
