Gene O. Adcock age 85 of Greenville passed away Sunday evening January 6th, 2019 at 10:30 PM at Cedarhurst Memory Care in Greenville.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 10th at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral home with Pastor Tyson Graber officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Greenville. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home Wednesday, January 9th. Masonic Services will be held in the evening of the visitation at Donnell-Wiegand at 6 pm. For those who desire memorials in Gene’s name may be made out to the Shrines Hospital for Children.
Gene Oliver Adcock, the son of David Dwight Adcock and Mary (File) Adcock, was born on October 29, 1933 in Woburn IL. Gene grew up in the Mulberry Grove and the Greenville area attending the Greenville public schools and Greenville High School. Gene worked as a machine mechanic at the Alton Box Board in Highland, Illinois for 52 years before retiring in 2010. Gene has enjoyed fishing, wood working, and hunting. Gene is a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge 245 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite of Southern Illinois, Ainad Temple of East St. Louis, former member of the Silver Lake Shrine Club of Highland, a member of the Bond County Shrine Club, and was a member of the First Christian Church in Greenville.
Gene Oliver Adcock and Geneva M. Worstell united in marriage October 30th, 1951 in Greenville, Illinois. In addition to his surviving wife Geneva of 67 years, their five surviving children: Connie Earnest of Greenville, Diane (Randy) Oglesby of Greenville, Dennis (Ann) Adcock of Grant Fork, Daniel (Ellen) Adcock of Collinsville, Karla Stone of Keyesport, and son-in-law Mike Koonce of Vandalia. Surviving grandchildren are: Amie (Mike) Page, Eric (Amber) Earnest, Chad (Brooke) Earnest, David (Matyka) Koonce, Anthony Koonce, Susan (Nick) Otto, Tracy (Jeremiah) Dewalt, Todd Oglesby, Rebecca (Brad) Varel, Nicholas (Eve) Adcock, Craig Adcock, Kevin Adcock, Shawn (Pamela) Stone, and Kaitlin (Paul) Roper. Surviving sisters are: Elizabeth Craig of Aviston, Doris Callahan of Clay City, Clara Dale of Coffeen, and Oneta Hensley of Greenville. Also surviving are 32 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janet Koonce, brother James Adcock, great-grandson Xaivore Adcock, and sons-in-law Mike Stone and Robert Earnest.
