Melvin L. Hubbard

Melvin L. Hubbard, age 76 of Reno, Illinois, passed away at 5:04 P.M. Friday at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home with Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will follow in Reno Bethel Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 1180 of Mulberry Grove. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Saturday December 19, 2020 until service time with Social Distancing and Masks. For those who desire memorials may be made to the Lem Rhodes Cancer Fund.

Melvin Lowell Hubbard, the son of Godfrey Alfred Hubbard and Lela May Williams Hubbard, was born on March 23, 1944 near Smithboro near the Nance farm. Melvin attended Central School, Mulberry Grove Elementary School and Mulberry Grove High School. Melvin answered his coutry’s call by joining the United States Army on July 31, 1961 in St. Louis, Mo and rose to the rank of Pvt E-2 being honorably discharged on July 18, 1964 at Fort Hamilton, NY after 2 years 11 months, and 18 days. Melvin became an over the road truck driver and worked for Howard Smith, J.D. Cline, Joe Bolla, Dan Bolla, Metscer in Decatur, Il, and for Yellow Freight for over 38 years before retiring in 2008. Melvin is a member of the St. Louis Teamsters Labor Local 600, The Union Retiree’s, and the Greenville Airport Association.

Melvin and Lydia E. Iliff (Markey) were united in marriage on December 22, 1967 by Rev. Robert Adcock at the Smithboro Baptist Church and have enjoyed 53 years together. Lydia survives as do their two sons: Godfrey “Charlie” Fletcher Hubbard of Reno, and John Dale Hubbard of Greenville, Il. Also surviving are a great grandson Triston Zinkgraf, and his half brother Larry (Debbie) Loughery of Greenville, IL, along with several nieces and nephews.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mildred Elaine Hubbard Huber, Janet Marie Hubbard (Hosick), and a brother William Arthur Hubbard.
