Bernece I. Disch

Bernece I. Disch, age 96 of Greenville, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Cedarhurst in Greenville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Greenville Free Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Groves officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon – 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Greenville Free Methodist Church or Bond County Senior Center. Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be mailed to the funeral home.

Bernece Ilene, the daughter of Ernest and Josephine (Dilbeck) McCray, was born December 19, 1924 in Hillview, Illinois. In 1932 the family moved to Greenville. Bernece worked for the Model Glove Factory in Greenville in the 1940s, later as a cook in the public-school cafeteria, and then at IGA starting in 1958. She worked at IGA as a checker and dairy case manager for 29 years, retiring in 1987. In her spare time, she loved fishing and gardening. Bernece and her husband Eugene started and managed the local farmer’s market for many years until retiring from that in 2000. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church.

Bernece and Eugene F. Disch were united in marriage on July 27, 1944. They had three children, who all survive, Kenneth E. Disch and wife Vicki of Greenville, Darlene M. Rainville of Keyesport and David L. Disch and wife Marsha of Greenville.

She was the loving grandmother of 7: Jody Weiss and husband Ryan, Judy Collier and husband Jon, Julie Johnson and husband Terry, Bob Talleur and wife Elise, Aaron Disch, Jordan Disch, and Amy Thomas and husband Jacob. Great-grandmother of Marissa, Autumn, Brenna, Jonathan, Jillian and Seth. Great-great-grandmother of Hank.

Bernece is also survived by one sister, Reva Smith of Vandalia. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Josephine, husband Eugene, grandson Ted Disch, and 9 siblings: Charles, Ruby, Wilma, Ola, Herbert, Opal, Ernest Jr., Donald and Lee Roy.
