Rosemary Emma Fritch, née Schmittel, was born on August 12, 1920 to William and Rose Schmittel in Clayton, Missouri. She passed away on February 4, 2021 at St. Anne’s Nursing Center in Miami, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Fritch, her parents, her brother, William Schmittel and sister-in-law, Eleanor, her sister, Alberta Reeder and her son-in-law, Paul Layman. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Layman, as well as her nieces, Carol Clark (Junior) and Sandra Giannakis (Nicholas), and her nephew, James Schmittel (Joan) and their families in Missouri, California, and Massachusetts and her cousin, Betty Drawe in Texas.
She grew up in Creve Coeur, Missouri. This centenarian graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis and William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. Rosemary lived in Highland, Illinois for many years before moving to Boca Raton and then Miami Lakes, Florida. She was always active in church activities, volunteer groups, and her homeowners association. She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, reading, and tackling crossword puzzles. As a member of Miami Lakes Church of Christ, she appreciated the friendship and kindness that she received. She will be missed by her family and many friends around the country. The family would like to thank everyone at St. Anne’s Nursing Center for her excellent care the last sixteen months, as well as the staff at Van Orsdel for their care and compassion.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.
