Betty Lou Compton Earney, age 72 of Grenville, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at her home in Woodlawn Terrace.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Smith Grove Cemetery with a Celebration of her life from 1 p.m. Thursday until 2:45 p.m. April 1, 2021 at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Dee Armes officiating.
Betty Lou Compton the daughter of Charles Junior Compton and Nina May Maroon Compton Hill, was born on October 6, 1948 in Vandalia. Betty grew up in Greenville and attended the local schools. Betty and Ira Earney were united in marriage on October 21, 1978 in Nokomis, Illinois by Pastor Shelton. Betty attended the Central Christian Church here in Greenville. Betty worked for Fayco in Vandalia for many years. Ira preceded Betty in death on September 24, 1993.
Betty is survived by her brother Michael Gene Compton of Highland, brother-in-law Edward Clay Smith of Highland, and nieces and nephews including Edward Joseph Hoffman Jr., Charles Joseph Hoffman, Cathy Compton, and Connie Sue Hoffman.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ira Earney, sisters Nancy Jo Compton Hoffman Smith, Barbara May Compton in infancy, and brother George Byron Hill Jr.
Betty had made her home at Woodlawn Terrace for the past 21 years and loved Elvis Presley and his music.
