Sharon Kay Peterson


Sharon Kay Peterson, age 75 of Greenville, passed away Tuesday evening, March 2, 2021 at her home in Greenville.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Matt Mendenhall will be officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Masks are asked to be worn and social distancing as best possible.

Sharon Kay, the daughter of Wallace Ward and Gwendolyn Viola (Elmore) Lash, was born April 10, 1945 at the family home outside of Greenville rural Mulberry Grove area. Sharon grew up in Bond County, attended Concord School near Mulberry Grove, Hunter School, Ingles School and Greenville High School with the Class of 1963. Sharon was one of eleven kids growing up and helped at the home and taking care of her siblings.

Sharon and Richard Lee “Pete” Peterson were united in marriage on February 9, 1963. They had enjoyed 52 years together before his passing on January 25, 2016. They are the parents of Amy Michelle Bohannon and husband Steve of Greenville and Jeffrey Scott Peterson of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Sharon worked at DeMoulin Brothers and later at the Shopping Center. She then hosted in-home day care for many years. Sharon loved flowers but her biggest love was taking care of her grand and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, 5 grandchildren: Kaylee (Dylan) Pearman, Lukas Hamby, Robert “Bob” (Becca Phillips) Bohannon, Karyssa (Zach Slatton) Bohannon and Allison (Marlon) Bohannon-Register. Loving great-grandmother of 6: Aubree Pearman, Willey Pearman, Braedon Bohannon, Averee Pearman, Briar Hamby and Luca Register. She also leaves behind many loved bonus grand and great-grandchildren.

Surviving siblings include Ruth (Gerald) Sugg of Greenville, Naomi Redding of Sorento, Patricia (Galen) Isringhausen of Greenville, Marsha (Estel) Grigg of Arkansas, brother-in-law Willard Carter. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard “Pete” and siblings Sue (George) Bush, Loyd (Deloris) Lash, Mike Lash, Edward Lash, Leila Pearson, Jane Carter and brother-in-law Glen Redding.
