Velma J. Harnetiaux, age 90 of Greenville, passed away Wednesday night, May 5, 2021 surrounded by her family at the Glenwood.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home. Interment is private. Pastor Tyson Graber will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are asked to be made to the First Christian Church or Mt. Auburn Cemetery Association.
Velma Jeanne, the daughter of Joseph Wesley and Sadie Lois (Ziller) Taylor, was born October 7th, 1930 in Gary, Indiana. Velma and her family lived in East Chicago, Indiana when she was young, attending the Franklin Grade School, and later Washington High School. The family moved to Pocahontas, Illinois in 1947 where Velma attended Pocahontas High School and graduated with the class of 1948.
Velma and Kenneth Martin Harnetiaux were united in marriage on July 15, 1951 at the United Methodist Church in Pocahontas, Illinois. They enjoyed 58 years together before his passing on April 2, 2010. They were the parents of Kerry Allen Harnetiaux, who passed away on July 27, 2017.
Velma was the office manager for Harnetiaux Construction, owned and operated by her and Kenny. Velma enjoyed bowling; and was on a women’s bowling league for many years. Throughout life, Velma and Kenny enjoyed going on cruises, boating, and traveling. They enjoyed travels to Mexico, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and any sunny tropical climate. Velma and Kenny were members of the First Christian Church in Greenville.
Velma is survived by her twin sister Velda (Charles) Carson of Pocahontas and sister-in-law Judy (Jerry) Roadman of Greenville. Velma is also survived by: David (Jean Marie) Carson, Deborah (Delmar) Smail, Cheryl (Steve) Mardis, Valerie (Jeff) Higginbotham, Veronica (George) Schaufelberger, James (Rhondalynn) Taylor, Randy Taylor and late wife Cheryl, Matthew (Susan) Roadman, and Michelle (Mike) Hermann. Also surviving are many great nieces and nephews and extended family.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenny, son Kerry, brothers Dewyn Z. (Lucille) Taylor, and Joseph W. (Sarah) Taylor Jr.
