Chester “Chet” Lee York

Chester “Chet” Lee York, age 95 of Greenville, passed away Tuesday morning, September 26, 2023, at Hickory Estates in Greenville, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Greenville First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the Greenville First Presbyterian Church.

Chet was born January 5, 1928 at home near Newberry, Indiana. His mother was Mildred Barker York and his father was Dennis York, both deceased. A brother Charles York and a sister Evelyn Haywood also preceded him in death.

Chester Lee York and Patricia Ann Fines were married on December 24th, 1948 in Switz City, Indiana by Chet’s Uncle Bill Barker. Patricia preceded Chet in death on February 15th, 2022. They have three children: Michael (Catherine) York, Patrick (Rosie) York, and Steve (Cherie) York. Eight grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

Chet loved the farm and farmed for years growing up. He graduated from Scotland High School, Scotland, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University in 1952 with a BS in marketing. He was a member of the Lamba Chi Alpha Fraternity.

Chet was in the army for 18 months working at the Pentagon and attained the rank of S/Sgt. He worked for Continental Steel for 18 years. He was Regional Sales Manager when he left to come to Greenville. In 1969 he partnered with John Anthony in Anthony Supply Co., Inc.

Chet was always active in the Presbyterian Church as an Elder and a Deacon. He worked with the Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, Police Commission, Country Club Board, Hospital Board, Masonic Lodge, Highland Chapter of Eastern Star, Shriners, Scottish Rite, and a charter member of the Greenville Lions Club.

He loved his church, loved to work, play golf and party with his family.
