Gregory Dean Essington

Gregory Dean Essington passed away on February 7, 2024, at his home in Perryville, MO, at the age of 66. Greg was born on October 9, 1957, in Breese, IL, a son of the late Robert D. and JoAnn Essington.

Greg spent many years working as a cook in various restaurants in the area.  He later took to the open road as a truck driver. Greg was a friendly face in every kitchen he cooked and on every route he traveled.

Greg was very passionate about honoring the veterans and adored his grandchildren.  Lovingly referred to as “Sharky” or “Paw Paw Lucky Gator,” Greg was an excellent storyteller who loved popcorn, fresh tomatoes, or a bowl of egg drop soup.  One of his favorite meals was a hot pizza and a cold Miller High-Life.

Greg’s hobbies were as diverse as his talents. He was an avid fisherman, an excellent cook, and an expert gardener.  He loved riding motorcycles, camping trips, and muscle cars. Throughout his life, Mr. Essington was a man of faith, attending Lutheran, Methodist, and Catholic churches.  He also loved watching movies, especially war movies.

Mr. Essington is survived by his loving daughters and spouses, Stacy Deppe (Jesse Deppe) and Ann Brandol (Mike Brandol); his adored grandchildren, Trent Deppe (Morgan Deppe), Kylie Deppe (Brock Merseal), Abigail Brandol, and Emma Brandol; his nephew and niece, Brad Essington (Laura Essington and Family), Melanie Zehnle (Greg Zehnle and Family); his uncle, Kenn Wigner; and his close friend, Jan Noffke and family.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. and JoAnn Essington; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert J. and Ruth Essington; his aunt, Linda Wigner;  and his beloved pets, Zeus, Derby, Charlie, Missey, Snoball, Peppy, and Dean.   “I’m a coming to Be W – U – ALL – 4 EVER!!!”
