Comets Recognized At GHS Sports Banquet

At Greenville High School’s winter sports banquet, basketball varsity letters were awarded to sophomore Brianna Wade, senior Hollyn Beans, and senior Ally Thies.

Varsity chevrons were presented to seniors Kassidy Alderman, Sheena Gatson and Maria Reinhard; juniors Taylor Gerdes, Afton Nelson, and Katie Schreiber; and sophomore Madi Funneman.

Kassidy Alderman was presented awards for being named to the IBCA 4th team All State and 1st team All Conference selection. Maria Reinhard was recognized for the IBCA honorable mention for All State and 2nd team All Conference selection. Reinhard was named the assist leader, with 101 assists, and steals leader with 58 steals this season.

Alderman shot with 73 percent accuracy from the free throw line, making her the team’s free throw leader. She was also named leading scorer with 416 points scored this year. Rebound leader was Sheena Gatson, leading the team with 162 rebounds.

For the boys’ basketball team, Will Schaufelberger won the free throw award with 79.5 percent. Schaufelberger was also recognized for being named to All Conference 3rd team.

The rebound award went to Austin Lawrence with 159 rebounds this season. Lawrence also received the offense award and was recognized for being named to the IBCA All State 3rd team and the All Conference 1st team.

Craig Faulkner won the assist award with 59 assists this season. Faulkner was also named to the All Conference 2nd team.

Comet hustle chart awards went to Jacob Hall for Varsity and Colton Rainey for JV. Daulton Young won the defensive award.

Cheerleaders were among the student athletes recognized.

Senior cheerleaders Lynzi Karnowski and Cortney Lurkins were named recipients of the Comet Spirit Award for outstanding leadership and dedication.  Both also received fourth year chevrons.

Maddie Tebbe, Autumn Weiss, Jordyn Ackerman, Callie Gan, and Cierra Oestreich, were given first year letters.

Sarah Bruno and Jayla Jack were given second year chevrons.

Third year chevrons were given to Marissa Maples, Kendal Mesnard, Tessa Cantrill, and Connor Stich.
