The Lady Comets tennis team played their first match of the season Wednesday night on their home courts, beating conference rivals Roxana 6-3. At #1 singles Abby Gaffner lost a close match to Sydney Owsley 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. #2 Anya Thomas lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Dhiral Patel came back at #3 to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Flights 4-6: Katelyn Eller, Emily Henderson and Katie Timmerman all won in two sets. In 1st doubles Gaffner/Eller lost to the Ballard sisters 8-1. At #2 Doubles Thomas teamed with Rebecca Sponsler to win 8-1 and Patel/Henderson took the #3 doubles 8-1. JV winners were: Haven Robart/Noelle Beans, Chelsey Ernest/Erin Gilmore, Stephanie Doll/Kendall Mesnard and Samantha Siefken.
In Wednesday golf, the Lady Comets defeated Carlinville, 226 to 233. Individual results: Eryn smith 45 (a career low for her), April Stich 56, Jayla Jack 60, Sarah ransom 65, Dodie Langham 71, Mady Balducci 71.
The boys’ golf team also won Wednesday: Greenville 162, Southwestern 187, Carlinville 254. Individual scores: Wernle 35 (low), Pickett 38, Durborow 43, Brauns, 46, Franklin 56.
