Real Stars Offers Benefits To Participants And Caregivers

With registration underway for the upcoming Bond County Real Stars baseball league underway, WGEL spoke with program representative Brian McElroy about the benefits the league offers to children with physical and mental impairments.

“I know with our daughter, she has school, then therapy, then by that time it’s time for supper, bath, and bed,” McElroy told us. “This allows them to get out and just be kids. They’re not expected to perform therapy, but it does involve therapy in a way, because we have kids with walkers that walk the bases. Just getting out in the fresh air is therapeutic for a lot of them. The parents get to just sit back and not do therapy; it’s kind of therapy for the parents, too.”

Registration is going on now for the upcoming Bond County Real Stars baseball season. Games are played Saturdays at the Jaycee Park, beginning August 16. For more information, call Brian McElroy at 664-9357.
