Comets Results From Thursday

Greenville Comets soccer defeated Southwestern 11-1 in their opening conference match of the season. Goals were scored by Silas Groves, Zach Eckols, Colton Rainey, and Jonathan Hall, all with two goals apiece. Goals were also scored by Will Schaufelberger, Noah Owens, and Cody Neely. Assists were credited to Will Schaufelberger, with two, JooWhan Park, Mahari Holt, Ty Ephron, Groves, and Hall. Nicholas Watterson recorded two saves in goal to earn the win.

The Lady Comets golf team fell to Centralia Thursday: Centralia 197; Greenville 229. Eryn Smith 47, April Stich 71; Jayla Jack 57 (lowest career); Sarah Ransom 61 (lowest career & first birdie); Jessica Hand 64 (lowest career); Mady Balducci 72.

The Lady Comets tennis team pulled off an impressive victory in their first away match Thursday evening by outdueling Teutopolis 6-3. Greenville won 5 of 6 singles matches to secure the victory before doubles play had begun. Abby Gaffner beat the Wooden Shoes’ #1 Kaitlin Deters 6-3, 6-1. #2 Anya Thomas lost the first set 6-2 before rallying 6-2, 6-3 to win her match. #4 Katelyn Eller had a similar outcome winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Emily Henderson held on in another 3 setter at #5 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. #6 Katie Timmerman won 7-5, 6-3. In doubles #1s Gaffner & Eller lost in 3 sets 6-2, 3-6, 3-6. #2s Patel & Henderson lost 7-5, 6-1 and #3s Rebecca Sponsler and Madison Funneman won 6-4, 7-5.

Freshman Comets football defeated Carlyle, 48-0.

Lady Comets Varsity volleyball won 25-19 and 25-23. JV volleyball lost in 3 games.
