Comets Set School Record, Hutchinson Ties State Record

The Greenville Comets big win over the Southwestern Piasa Birds this weekend turned out to be one for the record books.

“The Comets football team enjoyed a big win over the weekend against Piasa,” GHS Athletic Director Joe Alstat said. “The Comets accumulated 77 points on the scoreboard, which sets a school record for most points in a game.

“Quarterback Tyler Hutchinson tied the IHSA state record for the most touchdown passes in a game with nine. That record has been held since 1949 and he is now also tied for first place.

“Comets are back in action Friday night, as they host Carlinville. Both teams are 2-0. We expect a great crowd and hope you can come out and watch some Comet football.”

You can catch this Friday’s home Comets game live on WGEL 101.7 FM or streaming online at!
