Comets Playoff Effort Ends With Loss to Bloomington Central Catholic

The Greenville Football Comets playoff effort ended at home Saturday in a 68-43 loss to Bloomington Central Catholic.

For the first time in 10 years the Comets were bumped up to Class 4A in the IHSA playoffs.

It was a fantastic season that included a conference championship, 9-0 regular season and QB Tyler Hutchinson settling the all time state record for career passing yards.

In other 4A playoff action, Canton defeated Effingham Saturday, so the Bloomington Central Catholic Saints will now face Canton next weekend. Mater Dei was bested by Carterville, 28 to 20. Roxana defeated Freeburg 47-21 and will now face Carterville.

In 3A football playoffs, Vandalia fell to Nashville, 48 to 39. Hillsboro lost to Williamsville, 45 to 14.

In 5A matchups, Highland soundly defeated Mattoon, 57-26, and will advance to play Taylorville in the next round, and Taylorville defeated Triad 21-14.
