Comets Coach On High Pressure Tournament Performance

The Greenville Comets basketball team won the Litchfield Invitational Tournament this past weekend. That’s the second tourney championship the Comets have won this season; over the Christmas break, they took home the trophy from the Vandalia Holiday Tournament.

Saturday’s game was a close one that saw the Comets leading and trailing at times. In the end, Greenville defeated Taylorville 60-56 in overtime.

We spoke with Comets head coach Todd Cantrill about how the players handle high pressure situations.

“Well, one thing that we try to instill in every program we have, whether it be football, baseball, soccer, basketball, or anything, is to never give up and never quit,” Cantrill said. “I think, more than anything, you got to see that in that title game the other night. In a game like that, things are going to go well for you for stretches and they’re going to go against you for stretches. But our kids never gave up, they never quit, they kept fighting the whole way, and eventually things turned in our favor.”

The Comets are back in action tonight as they host Pana. You can hear that game at 7:00 p.m. right here on WGEL or streaming online at
