The Greenville Comets baseball team earned a conference victory, 12-0 in five innings at Pana Friday afternoon.
Ryan Hutchinson pitched all five frames, giving up two hits and striking out seven.
The Comets took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a three-run double by Kaeden Mollett. They added five runs in the fourth with Tyler Hutchinson cracking a three-run double, and GHS came up with four tallies in the fifth inning.
Players with two hits included Ryan Hutchinson, Jacob Hall and Craig Faulkner. Other Comets with hits were Brady Fletcher, Tyler Hutchinson, Dillon Halleman, Kyle Dugan and Mollett. Ty Sexton scored three runs.
Saturday, the Comets dropped two home games against Carlyle. The Indians won the first game 3-1. Hall pitched for GHS, allowing eight hits and striking out five. The Comets had only two hits from Fletcher and Ryan Hutchinson. Halleman drove in the lone Comets’ run.
Carlyle won the second contest by the score of 6-4. The Indians took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but by the end of three innings the Comets has tied the score. Carlyle regained the lead with a tally in the fourth and added two runs in the seventh. The Comets attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring once, but leaving the bases loaded.
Lucas Carlson was the starting pitcher, tossing four innings. The freshman yielded four hits , struck out five, and picked off two runners. Faulkner pitched in relief.
Hits for the Comets included two by Tyler Hutchinson and Mollett, and one by Dugan and Sexton.
Mollett was credited with two RBIs and Halleman and Dugan also drove in runs.
The baseball Comets ended the weekend with an overall record of 11-9. They play at Hillsboro on Monday, host Gillespie Tuesday and face Staunton at GCS Stadium in Sauget on Wednesday.
